Some dates are sweet, some are thoughtful, some creative. The one Jonathan created last night was memorable in all of those categories! I can honestly say that I try never to have preconcieved ideas or expectations on dates because I never want to hold Jonathan up to some imaginary bar of excellence or put him in a box. That’s why all of the following was just a little extra sweet. It was totally unexpected.
So, Jonathan started off our anniversary by bringing me these beautiful bright daisies. Funny story–I used to hate flowers. Well, not loathe them, but I guess I was the weird girl that didn’t want to recieve a gift that would just die in a week. My, how times have changed!! I’m not sure how I was so idiotic or silly but I truly do love flowers! I would almost rather get fresh flowers than groceries! They are bright, cheerful, and make the whole room just seem a lot better. Anyway…they were pretty. After the flowers, which were lovely and would have been plenty, Jonathan brought out a big silver bagged stuffed with paper. In it was a large white purse (“gody” he called it) with a huge buckle on the front (which is why he was sure that I would love it). In it I found a few of my favorite things: an adorable scarf with a collection of sweet patterns on it, a 1lb. bag of Dunkin Donuts coffee beans, mint mojito gum, and a trendy little necklace! Well…surprise to me! But no, there’s more…
He said, “Okay, so this is what we’re going to do…”
Jonathan has always been thoughtful, and for those of you that know him pretty well, you’d probably agree that he’s creative to the core. Last night, those two qualities had triplets. He pulled out nine cards. Three of them were labeled appetizer, three labeled dinner, and three labeled dessert. For each set of three cards, one said old, one said new, and one said blue. He explained that we were now going to embark on a progressive dinner where we would go somewhere different for each course: appetizer, meal, and dessert. So, I was going to have to pick old, new, or blue for each course without knowing what the options were and I wasn’t allowed to change my mind after I opened the card (but they were all awesome anyway). My curiosity just about killed me (as always) but I decided that I wanted to go with the new theme, even though I could have mixed it up. So, for round one we went to…
#1 Sushi Neko! Um…yum! What a sacrifice for poor Jonathan who doesn’t even love Sushi! He knew I did though, which makes it extra sweet, and we found something that we both loved. If you don’t know what to get, try the Lifesaver Roll. It was an A+ for sure. Man, the atmosphere in the restaurant is amazing!
#2 Red Rock. We got to sit outside on the patio overlooking the lake and it was timed so perfectly that we got our food just as the sun was setting. We had our own little musician who sang “Michelle my Bell” which was just the cherry on the sundae. Besides that, of course, the food was great. What else did you expect? 🙂
#3 Pop’s! I had never been there and it was such a fun new experience. Jonathan got a Dr. Pepper and I got my favorite, Cream Soda, but I did branch out and try a different kind at least. This one was made with Cane Sugar and Hawaiian Vanilla. It was the bomb.com.
The best part of the night was at the end when I asked Jonathan, “Why did you do all of this? I mean, you really took the time out of your busy schedule to plan all of this and it means so much to me!”
His response? “I wanted to love you extravagantly tonight. You deserve it.”
Bam. Best night ever. Sweetest husband in the world. How did I get so lucky?
